Just watched the final few minutes - thank god for that... I'd forgotten this entire arc and what happened. That made the whole 2 parter a bit more exciting...!

2019-04-10 21:26:18 +0000 UTCI’m typing this whilst completely zoning out. Really not enjoying this episode. The highlight was your dad telling you off about the garbage. Really not enjoying Season 6 since the initial two-parter which was great. I think my main problem is I just cannot stand Amy and am indifferent to Rory.

2019-04-10 21:10:26 +0000 UTCJust a side note on the Sky High thing. If you liked that there are a series of book call Super Powereds check them out they are fantastic.

2019-03-08 23:14:58 +0000 UTCNever really been a fan of this two-parter. The next few episodes, however, are excellent. Can't wait!

2019-03-08 20:56:38 +0000 UTCOn a rewatch this is a really good story, and I liked it a lot. Not sure why I didn't enjoy it very much on broadcast.

2019-03-08 20:56:29 +0000 UTCI like this two parter but it's good rather than great. Not sure if it's the actress or the writing but Evil Jen really doesn't work as a character/villain. Apart from that and a few poorly-chosen lines ("who are da real monsters?!?) the concept's really cool. Some exciting episodes coming up as well!
2019-03-08 13:47:35 +0000 UTCOverall an underwhelming two parter if you ask me except for the ending. Actually a bit better on the rewatch. I am SO pumped for next episode.

2019-03-08 08:45:43 +0000 UTCI like this 2 parter, think if done slightly differently it could make a great sci fi horror movie - I like how it explores what it means to be human and the whole Us vs Them mentality.

2019-03-08 08:45:04 +0000 UTCExcept for the end, an episode I find kinda dull. I will focus on the positive though: you liking “Sky High”.... because YES. I’m a huge fan of that movie.
2019-03-08 03:41:57 +0000 UTCWhy take a doppelgänger? To trick the doctor, of course. After all, you find an Amy that was taken, you’re going to assume it’s the real one and you won’t bother investigating further. Not that your first scenario isn’t correct, it most likely is. It’s a pointless line of questioning though, just like how the tardis was blown up... it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that it happened.
2019-03-08 03:38:50 +0000 UTCRelated, but this episode is pretty vague about when shoes are switched. It's entirely possible, depending on how early it was, that Amy just told the Doctor she saw his death while she thought she was talking to the Flesh.

2019-03-08 03:24:36 +0000 UTCBut the real highlight is the ending, of course. Which raises the big (if ultimately irrelevant) question- when was Amy switched? Almost certainly it had to happen in the season premiere at some point (especially since 6 months passed over the course of part 2)- logically, somewhere after the end of part 1 when she thinks she's pregnant but before the point in part 2 where she claims she isn't. The obvious candidates are: -somewhere during the 6 month timeskip when the Doctor and Rory were separated from her (meaning most of part 2 had flesh!Amy). This fits well with her later claims that the pregnancy was a false alarm and her vision of the eyepatch lady. -Sometime after the Silence captured her at the orphanage - a logical timing since she was already captive at that point, and so switching her before they rescue her at the end of the episode would be totally plausible. Unfortunately this doesn't fit quite so well with the above 2 points, but it does neatly avoid the issue of why they would take captive a doppleganger after already having the original. Would need to think on how to reconcile it with the continuity issues it creates

2019-03-08 03:23:58 +0000 UTCAnd so ends the two-parter. Really, it'd work for me if they'd just polished some of the scenes more. Like Amy being prejudiced wasn't a bad idea necessarily, but was it really necessary to have her bring it up at every possible moment even if it had nothing to do with the ongoing conversation? Did they not trust that we would understand she was being prejudiced even if it was a little more subtle? Little things like that keep this episode below the "great" line for me.
