Alright ya'll... let's get the conversations going! What'd you think of this reaction? Episode? Reveal? WHAT DID YOU THINK when you first saw it? Comment down below... spoilers ;)

Comments

Did not know that.

Dani C

cant seem to access this reaction now. Just get error 404

Liam O'Donnell

Worth noting: when this was filmed, Karen and Arthur weren't told the reveal either, so their reactions would be genuine.

Stephen

Amazing reaction!! I had no idea who she was when I first watched it either and actually forgot that this was the episode where the reveal happened so got to enjoy it all over again. I think some people are saying too much about River Song on here - there's still some important plot developments to come and so I'd be careful what you read. Some are signposted, but best thing is not to really think about her too much...!!!

Mark Ward

This is the first reaction I've seen where someone was truly shocked by the time of the reveal. lol I tried to surprise a friend about it but she worked it out near the beginning of the episode. I loved this reaction, it was awesome!

Jayna

Been looking forward to this reaction the most of all. So many people are really shocked. I remember when I watched the episode when River gets introduced. I thought what an interesting idea for a character. I hope they do something interlacing where she pops up sporadically as that would be fun. As her narrative unfolded I was pleased. But her identity was pretty well flag posted. River was identified as the murder of a great man. We see the Doctor shot and the killer was revealed pretty quickly to be a child in the space suit who we then see can change her appearance. Amy confides with the Doctor she thought was pregnant. Unravelling around time travelling characters that don't meet in a linear order. Not to mention the verbal clues. But it doesn't make the reveal any less emotional.

Daryl

I'VE NEVER SCREAMED SO LOUD AS WHEN I DID WHEN YOU LET OUT THOSE TWO "WHAAAAT?????"'S

jade

BRUH LUL that fucking WHAAAAT?! you let out was hilarious

For that matter rewatch their interactions in the premiere. She's quite quick to confide in him there too. The only interaction they've had that wasn't like this was when he was erased from history and she would have lost all memory of him.

Sachal Ali

Naturally I forgot something- like I said there's a lot to unpack. Go back and rewatch the scene when Rory tries recruiting River. The way she talks to him makes way more sense when you know he's her dad and this River hasn't met a Rory who didn't know that yet. She's so genuinely thrilled to see him and tell him about her birthday (probably thinks he's there to wish her). Like a teenager telling their parents about prom night.

Dude, your reaction "WHAAAAATTT" is on point, I think everyone missed this twist and reacted the same way. ,Welcome to the club. but hey, look at this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMRx1uqYI7k and remember River says this to Amy just as she is explaining what her name is in the language of the forest. The ONLY Water in the Forest is the River. Welcome to Steven Mofffat land, things are about to get truly wonky for a bit in Doctor Who, enjoy it :) oh, btw It is still NOT safe to google or search for River Song! Oh, and enjoy this directors commentary of the last scene in this episode: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vd1dUaNw4OHGNiv4kkaOQRmfuLMYFuWC/view

This is an epic episode and one of my favourites from Nu-Who. I think it was this episode which cemented Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor as my favourite new-era Doctor. (Being an older viewer, my Doctor is, and always will be, Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor.) Matt Smith had some really good episodes, and there's one in the next season - which really is one of my favourites of both Classic and Nu-Who. Can't wait to enjoy more with you (and Dooski!)

Andrew W

Sadly the second half of the season, while solid, doesn't hold together quite so tightly as this first half in terms of the long term story arc. But it'll be a fun ride just the same

Sachal Ali

"It's his mom" I'm dead

Sachal Ali

The second biggest weakness is that the Doctor calling in favors yields so few specific characters we already know from past episodes. This is apparently not entirely their fault- I read that Captain Jack was planned to be part of the coalition but they had scheduling issues with John Barrowman.

Sachal Ali

I think the biggest weakness of this episode is that the Doctor "falling so far" doesn't seem all that far. Yes it's personal because it was Amy's baby and yes a lot of people died but he's had more painful failures than this. And while there's definitely something unique about his victory in the first half, I'm also not sure it qualifies as "rising higher than ever", especially not when the man's fought in a much bigger war already. It feels like the characters are giving the plot more weight than it deserves (and it deserves a lot, mind you)

Sachal Ali

The Doctor's reaction to the cot conversation makes me think his kids slept in it too.

Sachal Ali

Props to Karen Gillan's acting, her scream when the baby melts is bone chilling.

Sachal Ali

For that matter, imagine if the reveal was Lorna regenerating into River. Wouldn't work with the rest of the season's plot but still.

Sachal Ali

I think I vaguely remember thinking Lorna might be Melody when I watched but I didn't give it nearly as much consideration as you did. Now I'm wondering how that might have played out. Imagine if the Doctor's failure was not only losing the baby but letting her adult self die the same day

Sachal Ali

I'm not overly fond of how Colonel Runaway keeps calling the Monks "these guys". It sounds so out of place in the way he talks otherwise

Sachal Ali

The scene where Amy talks about Rory at the start is a great benchmark for how far they've come. He's become enough of a badass in his own right that he could be described in language that sounds like it's talking about the Doctor and she thinks of him as the first person she assumes will save her now

Sachal Ali

Man there's a bit to unpack in this one. For "when was she snatched" I'd point you to the comments from the previous episode but gist is, probably somewhere during the premiere (which, keep in mind, spanned over 6 months of time)

Sachal Ali

Ah, the 'when did she get snatched?' question. This makes me so nostalgic. It's 2011 again. :D

Will

Great reaction! Even though there were clues all the way along, as other commenters have said, you were supposed to be surprised at the end. I know I was. Moffat had been working on this storyline since River's first appearance. He already knew he was going to be showrunner, and got buy-in from Alex Kingston on a recurring role.

Stephen Ray

Yeah, it's not even close to my favourite episode. It is a lot of fun to watch people react to, though.

Stephen Ray

Also you're quite lucky, this was a mid season thing, I think there was something like a 2 or 3 month gap before the next episode when watching it as it aired.

Chris

Love this reaction -Rory really comes into his own in the episode, it's like his Mickey moment.

Chris

Honestly this episode feels like a bit of a mess, because none of the elements feel like they get long enough for me. It's a damn enjoyable mess though, and lots to chew on.

Best reaction to the River Song reveal I've seen yet XD. Others I've seen either got spoiled beforehand, managed to piece some clue togethers or kinda yet went 'Oh okay, cool'.

I love the themes in this episode of the Doctor being seen as a warrior and a person who has become feared by so many people. He has became a living ledgend.

this is one of my absolute favourite episodes - especially the speech at the start. I still love how they managed to list all those things that sound like they are so clearly talking about the Doctor but they also all apply to Rory. Was so happy that you didn't figure out the twist at the end, a lot of reactors recently have but your reaction was hands down the best I've seen!

Haha, this totaly blew my mind too, I was so far off base. You reaction was absolutely priceless!

Patrick McMahon

This is one of the reactions I’ve been waiting for lol! I think I had a similar reaction when I first got to this part..I was shooketh lol.. thanks for the great reaction man!

Julian Gunther

Omg haha never noticed that

After she made a disparaging remark about mammals, Vastra asked Jenny: “Was I being insensitive again, dear? I don't know why you put up with me.” Then Vastra used her extendible tongue to knock out the soldier. Did you see the look Jenny gave her? There was a look.

Tumbili

Don’t forget the TARDIS told Rory that the only water in the forest is the river before she died and that he would need to know that.

Michael T

Man I watched this as it aired. After this ep (cause 6x1-6x7 aired from April to I want to say late May or early June) we had to wait until September or so for the rest of Season 6. It was a *long* wait.

Alex James

Wow. River = pond. Coop you are smarter than me. You'll see how close or far I was by the end of this one ;)

Failwhale34

Finally, a reaction to an episode I adore to get me through a flu-riddled weekend

Man I figured out who she was before S5 aired once I saw the companions were going to be a couple with the name Pond. I was gagged to find out I was right. Love this crazy show.
