The scene with Alec and Izzy was not so out of character for Alec. He has always been more reserved about talking about his feelings. Izzy even mentioned it in season 1 that he does not talk to her about his personal stuff. For him to tell her all those things shows that he, very in character, read up about how to help her and how he matured emotionally from season 1. I would have loved to have seen more sibling scenes with them.
