Your dad's cameos are now some of my favourite moments ever. He was MAD this time right? :D

2019-04-18 04:57:35 +0000 UTCI actually really enjoyed that - unpopular view I'm sure, but I enjoyed it more than The Doctor's Wife... oh yeah! I went there...! :D Hadn't seen it since the original viewing and forgotten the twists.

2019-04-18 04:57:16 +0000 UTCNow I remember why this was my least-favourite season after 2. A few interesting ideas spread across too many episodes. For me, it's all forgettable between "Let's Kill Hitler" and the finale.

2019-03-21 20:19:09 +0000 UTCAt the end the end when the Doctor slaps them on the back and says "in the flesh" originally this episode was going to be transmitted in the first half of the season before the Flesh two-parter when Amy was still Flesh. That would have been a hint that the Doctor knew about her by that point, but they swapped it to the back half of the season and it fits here just as fine.

2019-03-20 14:55:04 +0000 UTCI think this episode gets underrated because of what it follows, I think any episode after the River revelations would have been a bit flat in comparison.

2019-03-20 08:58:45 +0000 UTCI'm afraid that for me, this and the next three episodes were a complete bore - the only episode that wasn't padding is the finale. I'm sure lots will disagree, but up to this point it was the time where I least enjoyed the stories... but then there was Season 11...

2019-03-20 05:40:58 +0000 UTCThis is an episode that I appreciate more the more I watch it. I think overall when I was watching live I was deeply into the major story arc of the season so I wanted more tie ins and main character focus eps and I didn't fully appreciate the standalone eps of this season. In hindsight, there's a lot to enjoy about this one. I'm not always a fan of Gatiss written eps but this is one of his better ones, for sure. That speech the Doctor gives about having "old eyes" and how "monster's are real" was really captivating for me. I also really dug the idea of the Doctor making a house call. If we're honest tho, "Night Terrors" has a lot of story beats and echoes of "Fear Her" from DW Season 2 with the scribble monster and the little girl who turned out to be an alien. However, for me this is a much better attempt. I think there are three main reasons this ep succeeds where the other one fails: 1. The episode is thematically stronger and more confident. The fear in this ep is pretty universal and primal, it's tied more directly to George's fear of abandonment, and it feels exactly like what a kid would be afraid of even for the audience. Freaky noises around your complex, a creepy old lady from two floors down, the scary landlord and his dog.... Even better, the episode theme ties in heavily to the season long themes of parenting, motherhood and fatherhood. Especially the parallels of caring for an unexpected and semi-alien child you aren't prepared for, like Amy and Rory with River. Also the parenting themes explored with the pirates' ep and the ganger ep with that one acid miner. (The theme is a little bit in the Christmas Carol ep too tho that was more from the child's POV than the parents' POV.) 2. The single ep actors here are much better. I connected with George and his father way more than the characters in "Fear Her." That kid perfected being mildly creepy and alien, yet also vulnerable and scared. 3. Lastly, the directing, cinematography, art design, and light composition combined to create an expertly spooky ep. The way they shot this apartment complex made it seem both familiar/ordinary and alien. The frequent wide shots of the seemingly endless levels and evenly spaced apartment doors. The way they really made the closet ominous and intimidating with the lingering shots on the wooden frame as creepy music played. The shot from inside the closet as George slowly approached to ace his fears. The way they lit the episode was truly something special. That shot where the Doctor is leaning on George's door jamb while back lit so that his face is obscured; equal parts intimidating and yet haloed in light like something benevolent. Right up until he steps forward into a beam of light to reveal his friendly face to George. I really think these are some of the major things that truly elevated this episode for me.

2019-03-20 03:59:34 +0000 UTCAbout your childhood fear of aliens.... ever see 1986’s Invaders From Mars?
2019-03-20 02:57:55 +0000 UTCIt’s a good standalone episode. I didn’t love it on first viewing, but my opinion changed with a couple rewatches. Yes, it reminds me of a season 1/2 episode as well, but the one I was thinking of was “Fear Her” but done better.

2019-03-20 02:50:24 +0000 UTCThis week's episodes are underrated imo. No idea what people's problem is with this one, it ain't a Top 10 but it's solid and the twist that the kid is the monster is good.
