Well, it is Romana, she's a Timelord, (Timelady) from Gallifrey as well, in this classic series the Timelords exist, and she's one that traveled with the Doctor for a bit.

2019-04-02 05:23:14 +0000 UTC"I think she's his student" "it's interesting how she knows a lot about time travel" HEH. Never seen this particular arc but that made me chuckle cause I know who she is. Might be fun to wait and see if you catch on

2019-03-25 23:26:35 +0000 UTCI don’t know why everyone gets hung up on UK ratings. It’s all publicly funded and most of their shows are 6 episodes a season and they don’t even need a consistent schedule. It doesn’t even matter if few people watch or not since that’s not the determining factor in if a show comes back or not.
2019-03-24 09:21:04 +0000 UTCI don't recommend watching the serials and stopping on the first part. It's like ending a book at the first chapter. You're not getting the full story. City of Death is worth watching.

2019-03-23 16:47:56 +0000 UTCDon’t watch one part and stop this serial is better than a lot of the modern series

2019-03-22 23:08:13 +0000 UTCGenesis Of The Daleks is about as classic a Dalek story as you can get. Definitely one to watch.

2019-03-22 21:50:00 +0000 UTCThat cliffhanger ending to episode 1 of City of Death, where the Count rips his face off, is my earliest certain memory of Doctor Who. I can therefore date it to the 29th of September 1979 (I would have watched it on the original broadcast on BBC 1). That would have made me five years old at the time. I have fuzzier, confused, earlier memories that might be from The Robots of Death, two and a half years earlier but I would have been very young back then, just coming up to three! Only fragments line up with what actually happens in that story, having seen it again since.
2019-03-22 13:46:40 +0000 UTCInteresting episode, don't remember this one although the alien looks familiar - it certainly had a lot of walking around and crossing roads.

2019-03-22 11:43:05 +0000 UTCThe humorous parts are later in the story. Part one is not brilliant. If you can, try to watch the whole story, it's really quite good.

2019-03-22 08:20:27 +0000 UTCI heard a story that the reason 4’s scarf is so long is because when they gave the wool to the person who was going to make the scarf they didn’t specify how long it was supposed to be so they just used all the wool that was given to them to make the scarf 😂☺️
2019-03-22 02:01:30 +0000 UTCIf you’re looking for a classic story with Daleks or cybermen, you’ll be disappointed with this episode
2019-03-22 01:54:02 +0000 UTCI’ll be honest, having never seen City of Death before... the cruddy video quality plus all the shots of street walking (were they even on any famous streets or just random ones?)... I was incredibly bored. I would have watched this on fast forward or skipped to the next episode. I also thought this was supposed to be funnier, written by Douglas Adams, but if there were any jokes, I didn’t hear any.
2019-03-22 01:48:56 +0000 UTCGreat reaction! Just to clarify about the ratings. It is true that Part 4 of The City of Death had the most live UK viewers at about 16.1 million. While this was definitely impressive, it was helped by the fact that ITV (one of the 3 TV channels in the UK at the time) was on strike and so there were only 2 channels to watch! Additionally, the Series 4 finale did to very well in the ratings, with Journey's End getting 10.57 million viewers. While this is lower than City of Death, it was the first Doctor Who episode in history to be the most watched show of the entire week, which was a very impressive achievement.
2019-03-22 00:16:25 +0000 UTCYou need to remember that the classic series, like most tv of the time, ran at a much slower pace than serials today. Consider it like this - you are accustomed to watching the modern show, which runs at roughly 45 minutes per episode and those episodes are (usually) self-contained stories. In modern Who terms, what you have just seen is equivalent to something like 10 minutes of the modern show. Perhaps consider watching a four-part story in two reactions. You would then have a better grasp of the story by the end of the first reaction. City of Death definitely is a fan favourite, but part one is not a brilliant opening to the story. There are lots of shots of Paris simply because it was unusual for the production team to be outside of the UK, so they were showing off a little! Please do persevere with this story, and forgive it's clunkyness, that's just the charm of classic Who. The Fourth Doctor is my Doctor, I grew up watching him and so I have a very fond regard for Tom Baker. He has often said that his Doctor's characterisation was simply Tom playing Tom - mad, witty, clever, childish, passionate, profound - he was, and is, a great Doctor! I hope you enjoy the classics!

2019-03-21 23:41:47 +0000 UTCI was thinking that from the music. Though a lot of the first episode is walking around - so no harm with that happening faster :-)

2019-03-21 23:14:54 +0000 UTCMate this episode has been sped up for some reason it’s running at like 1.5x faster than it should be so it’s hard to follow

2019-03-21 22:48:12 +0000 UTCThat's one of the great classic stories. You can't just watch one part, and judge it. The serials are a completely different pace to modern Who. You have to watch the entire thing before looking at it critically, as the first episode is always a slow introduction to the story and characters, and things start to move in the second episode. Also, I think this was written by Douglas Adams as well, who is of course famous for the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Romana, his companion, is also a Time Lord. She is not human. A none human companion has yet to happen in modern Who, but was common enough in classic Who.
