Always fun watching reactors second guess themselves as they start to notice that Ed's been growing taller. And interesting what you said about Mustang's characterization, since as a manga reader I feel kinda like it's more the result of some of the small edits they made when they adapted the first couple of arcs. In the manga I always felt like he gave off the "charming and lighthearted but arrogant dick" vibe in his early appearances, and he didn't start to get serious (nor fully show his kinder side) until after Hughes died. The show kinda dialed it down in favor of a more serious character off the bat, and also significantly dialed down the early hostility between him and Ed. It's one of the relatively few changes I dislike as I feel like it negatively impacts their character growth compared to seeing both of them mature over time and only gradually become true friends. But it's also a subtle enough thing that others may not share my reading of their characters.
