Wasn't it said that this is unedited? I remember seeing one actress (from Sha're) naked. I noticed it missing. Because I knew it was supposed to be there. Not that I need to see it. I owe this movie by myself. edit: Nvm this is a cutted version of the movie. Thats why it is different. xD

Going back to watch some episodes I missed, another fun fact: when the show was on the bubble for cancelation, fans sent Showtime boxes of Kleenex with "THANKS. SEND MORE" written on the side.

Geonn Cannon

So glad to see you're watching this show. I hope you start to feel it more as the series goes on. Like most shows, it takes a season or so to find it's footing, much like Buffy. Regarding what you said about whether you should watch the film first. Like Buffy, the world and the concept is established in the film first, so you do miss something by not watching it first. However, I think that after the first few episodes, you will likely become invested and clear on what's going on enough that it will have the same effect as if you watched the film. You'll have gotten to see enough of the characters and how things work that a few episodes will serve the same purpose. Because here's the thing. While the concept is wonderful, and the worldbuilding in the film is good, the storyline in the movie is just badly executed. It doesn't have the same depth, and I feel you'd only be let down, and may be unnecessarily put off the show. The movie that preceeds this is a lot like the movie of Buffy that came before that show. It should have been great, but it just falls flat (and in the case of Buffy, it's just too cheesy and silly). It's like the people working on it didn't "get it" or didn't care. Which is exactly what happened with Buffy, to the point where Joss Whedon even says as much. That said, if up to where you've watched now, you still feel too much like you're being brought in in the middle of the movie, so to speak, then watch the fiml, BUT, be prepared--it sucks compared to this. Then again, I say this without having finished this reaction, or having watched the others you have up, so I don't know how much more connected you feel with the show or how you're liking it, so perhaps I'm speaking out of turn. Just my thoughts, for what they are worth. FYI, don't watch the movie of Buffy. Just don't. I've seen what you've said about when things get too cheesy or goofy. Yeah. Just no. Besides, you don't need to. It adds nothing to the story that you don't already know, or that isn't explained in the show eventually anyway. Off to finish this reaction.

Agreed, most of the changes are unnecessary. I did enjoy some of the extra footage and I never liked the morphing death glider, but my biggest complaint is the scene where Teal'c turns on his own troops and helps SG1. The one change I liked was when he and Jack were shooting the serpent guards they cut the shots of them shooting and the guards going down much closer together which made the guards seem less incompetent. But the music was totally neutered, Jack's plea for Teal'c to help them didn't have the same resonance, and that long pause after he asks where Teal'c decided to betray Apophis makes it seem like he wasn't looking for that opportunity for years and really needed to think about it. At least in Threshold FW34 will get to see the scene properly

Brad Wright and co never wanted an adult show. Showtime twisted their arm once and they refused to go down that road ever again

This is one of my favorite series! Have seen it "million times", but this version is my first time.... and I didn't like this version.. missing cheesy dialogue, missing nudity, at least one big story point missing (with Kawalski in the end), I think there are some new voiceovers here that sound strange.. Positive things in this version were Glider scenes and Teal'c explained some things in more detail

Martin Kull

You should watch the movie first

Brent Justice

Yay:) That was fun. I loved SG1. I didnt get into it when it aired in the late 90s - though I liked the film. I caught bits of it in passing when channel hopping but it didnt really grab me. I got into it somewhere around 2010 I think, after getting drawn in by the ill fated Stargate Universe. I bingewatched the entire thing and became a teensy bit obsessed.

Super exciting! SG1 is one of my top 5 favorite sci-fi shows of all time.

Thor Melsted

Awesome that you're doing SG1! It's one of my favorite shows. It's kind of got that fun, adventurous and slightly cheesy classic sci-fi feel mixed in with some more serious american military action stuff. Perfect middle ground between Doctor Who and stuff like Expanse and Battlestar Galactica IMO. The movie might be nice to see for some episodes coming up, but I didn't see it until years later so it's not necessary. I kind of like that there was some established back story that was sort of unknown to me. Made it feel more like an already established world. Also, please don't mind the odd middling "filler" episode, especially in season 1. Things will get a lot better once they find their footing and even before that the main cast makes it fun enough. Can't wait to see more!

When they shot the original pilot it was an 18 certificate or whatever the equivalent would be for each counties classification board. This was mainly because it contained nudity when Sha're gets taken as a host. I'm not really sure what they had planned for the show before it was commissioned. It could of ended up being more like Game of Thrones if it had been on a different network or had be scheduled for a different time slot. There are actually a number of differences in this version to the one I have as part of my boxset. Nothing that changes the plot, some minor dialogue removed or added at various points.

Daryl

Watching this before the movie would kind of spoil the movie I would think. So the question is do you want cliff notes filling you in on the little bit you might of missed? like the Kleenex thing was cause Daniel has bad allergies which they kinda show here a bit. It would just give more context to some of the things in this episode.

Magus

I think google drive let us watch the full videos in browser. Not that its a big deal just need to get in the habit of doing a direct download dropbox seems to cut off after 1 hour making you need to download the video to see the end of the vid. kinda weird its the same amount of data either viewing method

Magus

In my opinion, you don’t need to see the Stargate movie which preceded the series. This episode recaps the essential story of how the Stargate was discovered and what happened on the first mission to Abydos. There are some minor continuity issues plus different actors. I would say it’s best to continue with SG-1 now that you’ve met the team. I’m excited you’re watching this.

I've been waiting so long
