How Reality Cop Shows make us LESS SAFE [Ad-Free]
Added 2024-05-31 17:51:25 +0000 UTCIn 2020, despite all of the popular support for changes to the police, we thought we might have to settle for the small win of getting "Cops" and "Live: PD" canceled.
4 years later, both shows have risen from the dead. Cops is currently airing its 36th season and Dan Abrams's new show "On Patrol: Live" is a ratings juggernaut. Do these shows provide a check on the police? Or are they just glorified PR reps? And are some cops performing for the camera?

Jesus this was depressing. Those poor kids and that poor dad. know this project takes a mental toll on you and I'm sure it's been even harder with your personal struggles lately. Hope you're holding up OK.

It's just such a strange argument for someone to even think of. Dan Abrams' weird comparison between saying a protest was mostly non-violent to saying the same thing about a shooting at a nightclub doesn't make any sense. Even if we ignore how silly and disingenuous of a comparison it is, the premise is flawed. If a shooting happened at a nightclub and the police stormed in and viciously beat and arrested everyone in the club because one person in the club fired a gun, I would not be okay with that. I think most people, including a lot of people who are okay with cops beating up protesters, would consider beating a bunch of people who were bystanders/victims to a shooting to be, at the very least, uncalled for and seriously messed up. I don't know what he thought he was going for with that comparison.
