I think Denji's motivations make sense from someone with his background. If you are deprived of normality, of comfort within your personal environment you wouldnt really be able to think about outside of that environment, its similar to maslow's hierarchy of needs, someone who is starving wouldnt be concerned about something bigger than himself. Denji's character is simplistic, even when it comes to sex he is curious and honestly perverted in a sense but its clear that everything now is a new territory for him. Anyways, Aki is definitely interesting in his reaction and i think in this ep after seeing the people (the ones that were saved) reaction to Denji he realises while Denji is simplistic in his goals there's basic kindness in him that would make him protect others if he could and thus that sets potential for his character and its percisely why Aki told him he was a brat that doesnt know right from wrong and thats why he'll have to listen to him, similar to how you'd treat a child. Makima on the other hand treats Denji as a tool moreso than Aki does even if Aki speaks of detachment his actions lead you to believe at least some part of him doesnt view Denji as completely inhuman. Its definitely fascinating to watch but man i feel bad for Aki having those chaotic 2 live with him must be exhausting
