Alpha and Beta are the attraction fields we know, both have many timelines with small differences but each of them are heading towards the same place (convergences) like Mayuri's death and Sern's dystopia in Alpha, and Kurisu's death and the third world war in Beta. But in theory there should be more attraction fields, so it is possible that there is a future even worse than the ones we know. Remember that "Steins Gate" is a third attraction field that we reach after avoiding Alpha and Beta. When a D-mail is sent, it changes the past but Okabe is still in the same day and time he sent it, maybe you are mixing it up with the Time Leap in which he sends his memories to the past and therefore he would be "going back in time".
