I'd almost say this felt like a tribute to life itself, with Gardar reflecting on some of his best and worst moments, wishing he'd have done certain things differently. At least we saw him reunited with his son in heaven.

True, that's something I had actually forgotten about but Thors didn't entirely refrain from fighting either. He was just conscious about it and didn't use lethal weapons / force. Thorfinn may realize he was thinking a little too ambitiously and understand his father's method now.

2023-05-02 14:30:45 +0000 UTCI think you're right to be disappointed that Thorfinn wasn't able to hold his vow when he was pushed to a situation where his inaction would lead to someone dying. He almost in a very naïve way thought that if he just stops violence and instead started building and producing crops that this would solve all the problems. I'm glad that this happened this early so that he has to rethink his goals and how he achieves them, after all the person who inspired him and Askeladd (Thors) wasn't hesitant to use violence to protect his son and the people with him in the boat (granted that he didn't use lethal force).
