Fate/Zero 1x05 Reaction [Exclusive Request by Julian]

FINALLY, all servants have arrived!!!

Fate/Zero 1x05 Reaction [Exclusive Request by Julian]

I think I overdid it with that gigantic comment honestly ahah, I'm glad you took the trouble to read it. For the "route", it's a feature in visual novels. A visual novel is a game similar to a "a book where you're the hero": you make choices which lead to different consequences. In particular, some important (and obvious) choices in F/sn, lead to one of the 3 different routes, and change the story COMPLETELY. But F/sn is a particular vn, since you actually have to do the routes in order (narratively it makes sense), fate, then UBW, then Heaven's Feel. The choices at the beginning of the story aren't available if you didn't do the "previous" route(s).

Thanks so much for the extensive explanation man! I just read it all like three times to try and kinda get a grasp of the routes and how it all works. I'm still not entirely sure what these "routes" actually are though, but I'm guessing it's showing you the same story from different perspectives aka characters? But yeah I appreciate you laying it out to me and now everything regarding the three families makes sense too. I appreciate it!

[edit: warning it's an hilariously long comment, but it's the "ultimate starter pack of everything you need to know to start with the fate saga"] So, you are indeed "supposed" to know more about how the grail war works when you start zero, but you won't know more about most of the servants here no, because they will be different ones in F/sn (except for 2, Arthuria included). You're not supposed to know them. Anyway the animes don't really show much of the details of their individual stories, and you can check their irl story on wikipedia (not the fate wiki, just normal wiki) to have more context. It's just mythology and history anyway, you won't be spoiled, it's "culture". Trying to see the correspondance between the real myths and the hero in the fictional world of fate is one of the cool things with fate. Gilgamesh is a very interesting case, irl it's the first mythical hero from who we have written sources, from the Sumerian and later Babylonian civilisations. He was supposed to have all the treasures of the world, so in the Nasuverse they made him have all the prototypes of all noble phantasms, of every other hero. That's what he "launches" behind him, ALL those weapons are noble phantasms. He only has one original NP. He's not arrogant for nothing, be warned. Also, even with the other animes, I prefer to warn you that you will never truly understand how the Nasu-verse (from the writer Kinoko Nasu) works with the animes, it's far too complicated and the animes adaptations discard 80% of the informations. Anyway, Kariya is suffering because the Berserker class is special: the heroic spirit gets a stat boost, but loses their sanity and their ability to use some of their abilities, it's a trade but it generally makes the servant more powerful but there's a big problem: they use too much mana for any normal mage, almost any mage actually, so the master usually dies from exhaustion. The more they unleash, the more it's taxing for the master. Kariya is a Matou, so his power comes from those disgusting insects. There are 3 families that (supposedly) "made" the Grail: the Toshaka family (Tokiomi and his two daughters, Rin and Sakura), the Matou family (not originally Japanese, but relocated during the first war of the grail, they "adopted" Sakura Matou as a new heir), and the most important one the Einzberns (Germans, Kiritsugu works for them, with the homonculus (that is "kind of" the Einzbern heir too) Iris, Illya's mother). A recurring participant is also the Magic Association, based in London. Normally they should have summoned Alexander/Iskandar (a very powerful servant), but you know what happened. All the other masters/factions, are occasional, those 4 are regulars. How do they know the 3 families say the truth and the grail can really grant wishes ? Summoning an heroic spirit and commanding them, should be impossible. Heroic spirits are the peak of humanity, being able to summon them like that, is supposed to be the proof that the grail can really grant wishes. As you may have guessed though, things aren't so simple. Regarding the order, it's all messed up in the animes. The "normal" order from the games is first the 3 routes of the visual novel F/sn: the fate route (you discover the war, you know more about Saber's story), the Unlimited Blade Works route (you know more about Rin and about the "archer" of F/sn, a very important character), and finally the Heaven's Feel route (Sakura and Illya's route, in which you finally know the "truth" about the Grail). Then there's a weird but cool game impossible to adapt: Fate/hollow ataraxia. And then the Fate/zero books. The first anime (just named "Fate/stay night") was about the "fate" route of F/sn, mixed with a bit of the Unlimited Blade Works route. It's messy, inconsistent, and it's a relatively old anime. It was a success though. The second anime was Fate/zero. Yeah, you see the problem. Zero was a big success and they decided to adaot Unlimited Blade Works properly next. I don't really like that adaptation but most people liked it. There are some fillers, and they added some stuff to reference Zero (as the anime viewers generally have seen Zero before UBW... hu). Then they did the movies Heaven's Feel. Visually they are fantastic, but of course understanding the full story is impossible since it's just movies. Very good ones though. Zero spoils a lot of Heaven's Feel twists, but it can't be helped since the adaptation aren't in order. F/sn and its 3 routes are about the 5th war of the grail. F/zero is about the 4th war of the grail. To summarize, the animes are 1. the old F/sn anime, which adapted the first route (fate) of the visual novel F/sn. 2. Fate/zero. 3. the adaptation of the second route of F/sn, Unlimited Blade Works 4. the movies about the 3rd route of F/sn Heaven's Feel. It's a fucking mess, I'm sure you don't get it at all lol. As a teenager I was an hardcore fan. Probably too much.
