Yeah you're absolutely right! That triggered the thought in him for sure. And indeed, the spice curls was a scene we saw earlier in BCS already as well with Schuler present too :)

2022-05-10 18:37:55 +0000 UTCI may be totally off, but an extremely niche detail I think I noticed (I wouldn't put it past Gilligan to include something this particular) is what caused Gus to want to check out the underground lab and leave his gun there under the digger planning for Lalo's attack. We saw him in Los Pollos Hermanos offering the man at the check out the 'signature spice curls' to which he then enters a state of alarm. As we know from Breaking Bad S5E02, Madragal create the sauces, hence leading Gus to believe that perhaps Lalo is in fact in Germany and looking for Madragal / information on the building operation. We already know from earlier better call Saul seasons that Lalo was trying to hunt down Ziegler. Edit: I have just read reddit after you mentioned it had some good theories and saw this one there and of course I forgot Gus also pitched “Spice Curls” in the meeting with Madrigal/Schuler last season, which reaffirms this even more !!
