Death Note 1x25 Reaction "Silence"

The episode of all episodes... Even if the signs were there to make it clear that it was inevitable, I still don't think I was ready. I loved how the entire episode felt like an ode to L as a character, and how we got a brief glimpse at his backstory. Nonetheless, I couldn't help but feel somewhat upset after it all, like it all seemed so unfair that it had to happen regardless. Hope you'll enjoy the reaction!

Great input Mia, I couldn't possibly even add much to such an elaborate explanation of your views. Yeah the whole episode had a pretty biblical vibe to it, but the feet washing scene was obviously the most on the nose. The play Light made on Rem was incredibly impressive, I didn't see that coming at all. I feel like it'd take an actual mastermind on Light and L's level to be able to think these things through in advance haha. Though I wonder if perhaps there are reactors you know of who did? I think you're right. He wouldn't admit to it or maybe even realize he feels it, but I think there is still a part of Light that feels the loss. He may have hated L's guts for standing in his way, L was also the only person he ever met that was on his intellectual level like you mentioned. So having that respect for him must mean there's also the loss now, no matter if it may not seem present to him now.

Yeah I don't blame them (well actually I do cuz you dont even know what happens next hahaha). But yeah its definitely weird to head into the final episodes of the show now with L not being there. Light VS L is basically what the show was all this time

I love the symbolism in this episode so much. L's intuition being as strong as ever, he's so certain about his death he can literally hear the bells of the funeral he knows is coming. So good. And the drying scene is most commonly thought of as a reference to the Bible where jesus washes his disciples feet before they betray him and he dies. On the other hand it's also pretty gay lmao. That scene also makes me think about alternate realities where Light hadn't found the death note and him and L could've actually been real allies. It's obvious how much they respect each other, and I think that's one reason why L figured Light was Kira so quickly, because they were on the same wavelength intellectually. I'm a big fan of that type of relationship dynamic in general, where the other is one of the only people you can relate to, but due to one thing or another you're forced to be their enemy instead of ally. But yeah L's death is devastating. I say light is my favourite, but L is a very very close second, and this episode always gets me. Like we've both mentioned, the whole thing is extremely unfair and infuriating. He knew light was Kira the whole time, but he didn't have the means to prove it because he was literally in the dark throughout everything. There's a lot of debate about who's the smarter between the two, but I think it's fairly obvious that L is the smartest. Light had all the answers from the beginning, and chose the rules. L had to figure everything out with absolutely no clue, and he still did it. HOWEVER it was extremely satisfying to see you kinda impressed by Light's absolute check mate move against Rem, using her to kill L and herself. Made me smile. For the record, Light pretending to be sad about L dying makes me wanna beat him up, but at the same time I'm personally convinced there's a sliver of his old self left in him somewhere, and he is capable of feeling loss. However, his ego is far too big and the joy of winning overshadows everything else to the point where I'm certain he doesn't even realise it.

I know of numerous people who watched this episode and came super close to dropping the entire show. Just shows you how much of a character L was, with him gone it feels like half the show has gone with him.

FUCK LIGHT

Dude Man McGee

And thus concludes the "holy trinity" epsodes of death note.

Dude Man McGee

Yeah man... It all felt super unfair although you knew it was coming. I feel like I didn't even fully feel all the frustration until a couple hours after watching and thinking back about it.

I remember being so upset after this episode. L was easily my favorite character! I even went as far as to put the show on hold for months lol before deciding to continue. But I also think that's an underlining message of the show, nothing is fair. Light definitely believes he is untouchable now.
