Adding on to myst's comment, high level monsters can not only control the conception of their offspring, but they can control how much energy they will expend in the pregnancy and birth of their child. Kaede chose to go all out with her pregnancy and give Momiji as much energy as possible. That is why Kaede carried Momiji for centuries and after birth, she named the child. As a result, as Benimaru says, after Kaede used up all that energy on Momiji, she was unable to recover and is now very weak and near death. Momiji is incredibly powerful at the young age of 15 because of how much power Kaede chose to give her.
