It’s for sure the scene with Nami in desperation and Luffy coming to help her that makes the episode for me. It’s very raw and vulnerable. I almost don’t remember what else happens in the episode. I believe that Emily Rudd expressed in an interview that she knew that she had to be as perfect as possible for that particular part of the live action. She succeeded. The biggest part of this arc that I do NOT think they translated well to live action was the decision to make Gen and the villagers unaware of Nami’s plan/sacrifice. I know that they wanted to shorten things for the live action, but I thought that it undermined part of the depth of Nami’s distress. Discovering that the whole village put their hope in her just for them to forsake that hope and then march toward their own slaughter adds so much more pain to losing all that money. Again, I know they had to shorten it, but still… lol

This was the episode that convinced me to join for the long haul. I’m only on ep 250-something, but this was still my favorite episode until very recently. So good!!!

2024-09-24 22:35:27 +0000 UTCthe nami help me scene in the live action is probably the best adapted and just best scene in the live action in general. emily rudd, the actor for nami did this scene perfectly. the only thing i kinda had gripes about was luffy's motivation to help in the live action. in the live action, luffy heard nami's backstory and that was his motivation to help nami. in here, luffy's motivation was purely his simple minded friendship for nami. he never heard her backstory, he just wanted to help her regardless
