Kirei is really the worst opponent for Kiritsugu which specializes at killing mages. Kirei is a superhuman fighter before all, even if he uses some magic, like Kiritsugu it's not really conventional at all. This fight is actually one of the few that was WAY crazier in the novel, a lot of stuff was toned down for the sake of simplifying things. 18:00 not blood, the "grail" has been corrupted since the 3rd grail war (it's explained in Fate/hollow ataraxia, which doesn't exist in the animes). They mention that character quickly because Zero is the last part of the story, so the narration assumes you've played Fate/stay night and Fate/hollow ataraxia, and you know what it's about (of course, it's not the case of 99% of those that watched this anime, you're not alone). In the Zoroastrian religion, irl, Angra Mainyu is more or less evil incarnated. Anyway, I assume you finished the series now, did it really end as you predicted ahah ? The "grail" was never formed successfully in the previous wars, nor in that one (close enough though). All the wars are ceremonies to create the "grail", just attempts. Only the three original families know what the grail is. Once it's formed, there will be no reason for the grail wars to happen again.
