I can understand his confusion on Veldora's powers because when the anime showed him destroying the town it showed him breathing fire, even though that is not totally lore accurate. They kinda retconned this in the opening for S3 part 1 oddly enough hahaha

We don't even get a hint for a long time, and maybe they'll tell us the full answer in Season 4 or 5? Sorry.... Ifrit is a spirit, not a demon. Important distinction...... I haven't seen any examples of Rimuru needing to rest up after most actions. Skills are pretty energy-efficient. I can think of only two things that required Rimuru to go into sleep mode: one is naming, and the other one will be revealed later.... In this world there are multiple types of self-replication where there are different numbers of copies and different degrees of capabilities in the copies.... Ifrit separated from Shizu before he fought Rimuru.... Veldora's power is not fire.
