The New Math Teacher
Ajax High had one of the worst reputations in the District when it came to teachers; They didn't hang around too long! The principal and vice principal were tired and didn't bother to really discipline the boys responsible anymore, due to the restrictions regarding child abuse, the county strictly enforced.
For those of us who really wanted to learn, the whole situation was just terrible and there seemed like no light at the end of the tunnel. Finally, our new principal of the month, Mr. Jackson appeared and things began to change. Graduation for seniors, like myself, was coming up soon and my favorite math teacher had decided it was time to get out, that's when Ms Snyder came into the picture.
“I'm here to make sure you learn math and graduate!” she opened class with that warm spring day and it didn't take long for one of the “boys” to challenge her!
“So you think you can tie me up into a pretzel little man.” she said very calmly while writing out a math equation.
“Yeah bitch! And if you're not outta' here in five minutes, you're gonna find it real hard to write with a broken hand!” Larry, the leader of the “boys” threatened.
After five minutes had gone by, he jumped out of his seat and marched toward her; the good students turned their heads and cringed, fearing for her life.
But I kept my eyes on her and when the ruckus was over, Larry had been stuffed in the coat closet, his hands tied together with his own shoe laces and he had on a dunce hat!
When class was over, everyone filed by the small closet and marveled at how little Ms. Snyder had slain the dragon! Ms. Snyder soon became the best teacher in our district leading Ajax High to a better reputation!
