Turning Chapter 989

After the sweet rest following the massive battle ended, the Southern Branch of the Cavalry, which had begun to busily move again, was full of vitality. Of course, this was partly due to the fact that there were far more members and guests packed tightly than before, but there was a sense of leisure and liveliness overflowing everywhere that could never be explained by that alone.
However, the medical department was an exception to that.
"Ah! Pharmacist! Please! How can you tell me not to eat candy while taking such unpalatable medicine!"
"Choose. Either suffer for two weeks because the candy ruins the medicine's effectiveness, or quietly endure it and recover in a week."
"I really don't want to say this unless I have to...! But after taking it for three days straight, I have to know what it's made of, even out of curiosity! What on earth did you use to make it taste so terrible?"
"Why do you need to know? It's not poisoned, so just bear with it!"
The medical department was filled with wailing voices because the taste of the new medicine Enon had created for the overwhelming influx of patients was reminiscent of torture. Lusan squeezed through the patients who were rolling around on their beds, retching after taking the medicine.
"I thought it would be fine since Yuder drank twice as much without any problem when he came earlier... Sir Enon, how about reducing the dosage for those who are struggling a lot?"
It was a kind compromise born out of compassion in its own way. However, to the ears of the Cavalry members, it sounded like an icy question: 'Yuder can take it without a word, so why can't you?' Of course, even though they knew it wasn't meant that way, sometimes things that were too pure could be more provocative.
Those who had turned pale while holding back their nausea looked at each other and muttered, raising their trembling hands.
"Wait a moment. I'll just take it..."
"Me too..."
"Oh? You can take it? If it's too hard, you don't have to take it all now..."
"I can drink it! Because I'm a Cavalry member!"
"Oh, I see. Alright then..."
The members snatched the medicine from Lusan's hands, each closing their eyes tightly and vigorously pouring the contents into their open mouths.
And a moment later.
"Ugh...!"
"Kuh-heuk, blergh, uuugh!"
Accompanied by indescribably terrible groans, people collapsed here and there, clutching their throats. Of course, since they had fallen on their respective beds, the soft mattresses safely caught them, and no one was injured.
Lusan, who was dumbfounded, checked their physical conditions and covered them with blankets before turning to Enon.
"What is it? Why are they suddenly trying so hard to take it..."
Enon replied with a nonchalant face.
"They say the most frightening thing is ignorance."
"Pardon?"
"Never mind. It's a relief that everyone is taking the medicine well now that you, little one, have returned. Keep doing that next time too."
"What did I do?"
Enon didn't answer. Since this wasn't the first or second time, Lusan wasn't particularly curious about the answer.
"Hmm. It seems like everyone has a much stronger sense of responsibility and belonging compared to before, while I was away. Actually, seeing how the Cavalry feels much more precious to me after this southern battle... I guess everyone felt a similar realization, right?"
"Who knows. If you ask me, I'd say they've gone crazy as a group..."
Enon's eyes swept over the members lying here and there, then fixed on a room with a closed door inside the medical department.
"...Well. This isn't a knightly order that prioritizes solemn discipline and accumulated time, nor a mage's guild that says there's no hierarchy in the face of freedom and enlightenment. I guess it's developed its own color."
"Ah! Those words are really cool. I think you're right. The Cavalry is definitely not a knightly order or a mage's guild. It's an organization that has a new color unlike any other place and can do anything... I really like that it's so Cavalry-like."
"Is that so."
Judging from Enon's sullen expression alone, he didn't seem to sympathize with Lusan's words at all. However, Lusan knew from his experience so far that he was surprisingly good at taking care of people and had a deep consideration for them, so he just smiled brightly.
"Sir Enon, you've been working hard staying up several nights alone to take care of patients and make new medicines, so please go in and rest now. I'll take care of the rest since we've had a breather. There's someone waiting in the room over there, right?"
Enon clicked his tongue and got up from his seat.
"Who's worrying about whom? The guy who went to the temple after being exhausted of divine power is talking well. ...But I'll go finish talking to the waiting guy and come back, so keep an eye on things until then."
"Yes. You can take your time."
Enon put his hands in the pockets of his outer coat and sauntered over to open the door of the inner room. Inside was Yuder, who had come down earlier, taken the medicine, and had been waiting all this time.
"Are all the urgent matters taken care of now?"
"Yeah."
In front of Yuder, there was a medicine bowl identical to the one the Cavalry members had taken and collapsed earlier. However, his was just about twice as large as the bowls the others had drunk from.
Enon sat down and crossed his legs, looking down at the empty bowl with displeasure.
"The other guys were making a fuss saying they couldn't take it, but you're not making a big deal out of it?"
"It's not poison that'll kill me if I take it, it's medicine."
"You're right, but why does it annoy me so much when you say it?"
"If you want, I can make a big deal out of it right here."
"And then watch you suddenly prostrate yourself like last time? Forget it. If you're a patient, just stay put like a patient, please."
As he listened to Enon's grumbling, the corners of Yuder's mouth moved faintly upward and then returned to their original position. Enon's bright yellow eyes closely examined his face and entire body.
"How's your strength recovery going?"
"Not bad. It seems like it'll take a few weeks to fully recover to the level before the battle, but if someone tries to kill me here right now, I'm well enough to bury them on the spot."
"Yeah. You're saying you're fine, aren't you?"
"Because I rested obediently as I was told to."
The corners of Enon's eyes twitched. It was because he had guessed what Yuder had been doing while resting. However, in the end, it was Enon himself who had told him to do so. He took a deep breath and suppressed the surging emotion.
"...On the day of the waves, your soul's condition didn't look so good, so I was a bit worried, but for now, there's no major problem. You said not all the strings tied to the sword were cut off, right?"
Yuder quietly nodded.
"There was a reason for that. I was busy at the time, so I couldn't tell you, but right before the waves came, I had another dream. A dream about the hand wearing a white glove."
"Ha... Yeah. I knew you'd probably say something like that."
This wasn't the first time Yuder had come to see Enon as soon as he recovered and was able to go out. And every time, he would add a few new incredible stories that would make Enon's head hurt.
Still, this time, it was after everything had been resolved well, so no matter what he said, it wouldn't be as infuriating as before.
That's what Enon thought.
Not expecting that thought to be shattered greatly just a few minutes after Yuder started talking.
"...That's about all I've told the commander."
"..."
"That guy?"
"..."
Enon, who had been looking down with his arms crossed, raised his eyes. His bright yellow eyes, which were already an uncommon color, were very good at revealing the emotions he felt, and now they were shining as brightly as ever, arguably the best he had ever seen.
"Let me ask you one thing first. Did your Commander... tell you to come here by any chance?"
"That's right. He told me to tell you if possible."
"That damn guy must have pushed it onto me because he thought it wouldn't work if he said it himself."
Enon, who cursed without hesitation, let out a short breath, "ha, ha."
"Then I'll have to respond accordingly."
The mirage-like smile that had hung on the handsome pharmacist's lips for a moment was quickly replaced by two hands that shot out with fiery anger, mercilessly grabbing Yuder's cheeks and stretching them.
"I fixed you up with great difficulty, and now you're saying you've thought of a new way to try dying again? Which mouth is saying that? This mouth, huh?!"
"..."
"As you said, of course, you could try such a terrible method if you wanted to. But no one knows if the place you're thinking of exists beyond the cracks that have appeared. Even if it does! Do you know how weak the human body is? Ordinary, average humans would have their souls shaken just by getting close to those anomalous cracks! Just like how humans who get close to monsters have their souls worn down, whether they win or lose!"
"Wait... Enon..."
"You seem to think your body is very strong, but it's not! Sure, you may have been born with good material! You're not someone who would lose anywhere! But that's not all there is to it! You could really die! Do you not know what dying is? Huh?"
"..."
It was long past the usual time for letting go before Einon's grip finally loosened. Yuder looked at Enon, feeling the most stinging sensation on his face that he had ever experienced. In the gaze they exchanged, Enon declared with a serious face, as if telling him to listen carefully.
"Erase that plan from your mind right now."
"I'm not saying I'll do it right away. It's just one of the possibilities..."
"You'll try it if you think it's feasible after saying that. Do you think I don't know you? What about your Commander?"
"..."
"You said you're going to save that white-gloved guy, right? But what happens next if you save him and you die? Have you ever thought about that?"
Yuder fell silent. Of course, he had never specifically thought about saving Kishiar and dying himself, but...
'If I can save him, I thought I should be prepared to pay a certain price. Even if it's not my life.'
However, he knew it wasn't the time to express such thoughts here.
In the end, Yuder was able to escape from Enon's attack only after saying about ten times that he would properly abandon and discard his plan. If it had been possible, Enon would have made him take an oath.

2024-09-11 13:37:20 +0000 UTCi’m beginning to think the “spirit of the calvary” is literally just “if yuder can do it, then so can we” and that is mildly concerning

2024-04-03 12:57:24 +0000 UTCI agree with Dani over here, I don't think we have to worry about their kids, it can only be positive for them to have Yuder as their mom.

2024-03-25 00:44:25 +0000 UTCYeah, the problem with the vessels stems from all the generations of inbreeding between the imperial and ducal families. Yuder, being as far removed genetically from nobility as it gets, would actually be highly beneficial for the bloodline.
Dani
2024-03-24 20:21:19 +0000 UTCactually now that you mention it🤔 didn’t enon say yuder has a really stronge? vessel? combining that with kishiars power i think they’ll have really strong children!!

2024-03-24 18:43:32 +0000 UTCHahaha 😂 ‘if you want I can make a deal out of it” that line🤣 that one really got me, I’m really loving getting to see the sibling interactions of Yuder and Enon 😆

2024-03-24 18:09:13 +0000 UTCChild: "Father, may I have candy after dinner?" Kishiar: "Sure, please ask your mother" Yuder: "..." I want to see them building their own family as well! But I hope not anytime soon because I don't want preggo Yuder in the final battle. I'm also very worried about their children, because Kishiar and the imperial family have problem with their vessel due to enormous power, and to be added with Yuder's? I hope this issue will be solved in the future

2024-03-22 18:37:40 +0000 UTCLol, Kishiar making Enon the disciplinarian! 🤣 I think we just got a glimpse of what his parenting style would be (God, I hope we get an epilogue with kids!! 🙏🏼)
Dani
2024-03-22 18:27:33 +0000 UTCYeah but i don't yuder convinced anybody (includibg me) that he still wont try and do something crazy.. like his mumble at the end about he'd be willing to pay any price less than death.. like my dude please that is not something that lends itself to negotiation !!
Sarah Mooney
2024-03-22 12:36:22 +0000 UTCOkay tbh im convinced that enon is taking revenge deliberately with the icky medication for the Cavalry because of their pro yuder recklessness in throwing themselves into battle and danger!! I can just see him cackling to himself in the corner .. don't do the crime if you can't do the time guys 😆

2024-03-22 12:28:43 +0000 UTCI never should have doubted Kishiar, of course he knew exactly who to send Yuder to.
