After Yuder had made his round and slipped out of the formation to sit back down, the dance of the members continued unabated. The sight of Kurga, who had been working in the kitchen, dancing in his bear-like stature without having removed his apron, brought joy to many.
Finally, someone ran to the branch office to bring more people, and contrary to expectations, unexpected individuals appeared.
"Wow, it's the priest!"
"The pharmacist is here too!"
The members cheered loudly and waved their hands at the unexpected appearance of the medical team, who had never been to such a gathering before. Lusan, his face flushed, mumbled as his hands were grabbed by the excited members.
"Hmm. Hello... I'm not sure if I should be here, but..."
"Of course you should be here, as a member of the Cavalry!"
"Quickly, give the priest a seat and a drink!"
"No, dance! Dance first!"
Lusan smiled awkwardly, caught between those with differing opinions. Fortunately, he didn't seem too uncomfortable either way.
"Would you like to dance too, pharmacist?"
"What? Don't be ridiculous. Move aside."
Unlike Lusan, who was grabbed as soon as he arrived, the members who approached Enon were immediately rebuffed by a few words uttered with a frown. Some still tried to grab Enon somehow, but upon hearing the response, "Aren't you the one who vomited three times after taking the medicine I gave you? You must have taken everything I gave you yesterday and came here, right?" they hurriedly hid their bodies with frightened faces. It would have been a scene that would have made those who feared the Cavalry doubt their eyes, as the Cavalry members, famous for never backing down and fighting like demons against countless monsters from the sky and sea, were intimidated by a few words.
"Ha... Even Yuder doesn't disobey the pharmacist, so why did I listen to something I didn't need to hear?"
"But still, today is a good day, so I thought maybe..."
"Our pharmacist's cold demeanor is his charm. Just leave him be."
Yuder swallowed a hollow laugh as he heard a few members who had retreated from Enon whisper.
'His cold demeanor is his charm.'
In Yuder's opinion, it was closer to a fire that would burn you to death rather than being cold, but it seemed that's how others saw it.
"If you saw me, you should have at least waved to let me know you're here. Why are you tucked away in the corner with your mouth shut?"
Enon, who had finally chased away all the clinging people like flies, strode over and plopped down in front of Yuder. He sat with one leg casually resting on the other and his arms draped over the backrest, looking as sloppy as a common thug in a tavern.
"What brings you here?"
"You think I came because I wanted to? I came to see if you were doing anything stupid since you're here."
"Why would I do anything stupid when I'm not even drunk?"
"What? I thought your goal was to show the world that there's no limit to the stupidity a human can commit with a sober mind."
Enon scoffed and took a swig of the beer that someone had respectfully placed in front of him as if offering it. Yuder glanced around. Spotting some lemons for cooking not far away, he flicked his hand lightly, and they swiftly flew over and landed in front of Enon, following his will.
"Hmm?"
Enon roughly set down the glass and raised an eyebrow at the lemon. He looked like he was about to say something, but in the end, he obediently picked up the lemon and ate it. Seeing this, Yuder secretly swallowed a faint smile. He never refused lemons, no matter what.
"You weren't smiling just now, were you?"
"No."
Yuder immediately erased his expression and feigned ignorance at the quick question.
Sitting next to Enon, silently watching the laughter mixed with music and the sound of dancing, a different feeling came over him than when he was watching alone.
As he slowly traced the end of that inexplicable tingling sensation, Enon suddenly spoke first.
"Why isn't your Commander here?"
"Probably because it's hard for subordinates to rest and have fun comfortably when their superior is around."
"That's true, but... if that's all, there's no need for you to be here either, right?"
Yuder was silent for a moment before answering softly and slowly.
"He told me to share my experiences in the South with my colleagues in a non-official way. That's why I'm here."
"...Aha. I knew it."
Enon paused, his hand holding the lemon, and let out a meaningful snort.
"So, how is it now that you're here?"
"Not bad."
"Specifically."
Yuder opened his mouth slightly as he moved his eyes to follow the smiling faces of his dancing comrades. A faint breeze naturally scattered his words so that no one but Enon could hear them.
"I've never done anything like this 'before.' 'Before,' this place was completely ruined, unable to escape the waves, and I tried not to meet the same result. Without even knowing what to do or where to start."
"..."
"Now I clearly feel everything I didn't know then."
"..."
"I wasn't sure if sharing stories with others in a setting like this would have as much meaning as the Commander expected, but now that I've done it, it's not bad. ...Well, that person's words were always right."
Is it the power of the atmosphere created by the place, or is there something more?
He couldn't know, but Yuder was able to talk with others much more leisurely than he had thought, and he found unexpected comfort in that meaningless act. Until now, they were just well-organized pieces of information in his head, but now they came alive with vivid breaths and became 'shared memories' that could be shared with others.
Yes. Yuder Aile will probably never forget this moment.
Just like all those moments he shared lying with Kishiar La Orr.
Yuder exhaled as if savoring it and turned his head towards Enon.
"This should be specific enough."
"..."
Enon, who had chewed and swallowed the lemon, looked at Yuder with an inscrutable gaze, then suddenly laughed with a snort. His outstretched hand mercilessly ruffled Yuder's hair.
"Yeah. It's good to have memories."
"..."
"Add one more line saying it's even better because this big brother came to see you."
"...I don't think it's very good right now. My hair is poking my eyes."
"What? I can't hear you."
"You can hear me just fine."
Enon pretended not to hear, loudly messing up Yuder's hair until it was completely flipped over, and only then did he let go, satisfied. Yuder let out a small sigh and emptied the glass in front of him. Seeing this, Enon laughed heartily and took an even more relaxed and loose posture.
"Yuder."
It had been so long since he had properly called his name that Yuder was quite surprised.
"...Did I say something wrong?"
"I'm not trying to scold you, so don't get riled up with nonsense."
"..."
When Yuder closed his mouth, Enon exhaled a long breath, parting his pouting lips, and continued.
"Luma also had countless regrets in his life. He didn't win every battle, and he didn't think all his choices were right. At least the Luma I saw was always regretting, regretting, and only regretting."
"..."
"But he never got so lost in those regrets that he only looked back, not forward. He always said that wasn't the way to live."
"..."
"I couldn't understand those words well. It took a really long time for me to even think I understood them a little. Actually, even now, I'm not sure if I truly understand their meaning. But you already know the meaning of those words, don't you?"
His calm voice slowly resonated in Yuder's ears and heart.
"Human life is too short. So enjoy the moments you can enjoy. You don't have to look back anymore."
"..."
"Maybe that's what your Commander wanted to convey to you, too."
After mumbling the last words so faintly that even Yuder wouldn't have heard them properly if he hadn't been concentrating, Enon downed the last of the beer in his glass in one gulp. Then, without waiting for an answer, he suddenly changed the subject and asked an unexpected question.
"You. You said you wanted to go to Gyllandr Hill with me before. You haven't changed your mind, right?"
"...I haven't changed my mind."
"Okay. We'll go as soon as we return to the capital, so be prepared."
There was no hesitation in Enon's nonchalant voice. Yuder realized that he still had no idea where Gyllandr Hill was located.
"Come to think of it, where is it located? Is it close to the capital?"
"It's relatively close."
Enon's gaze turned to the air as if gauging something.
"North of the capital. The place humans call the Sanctuary. We have to go that way."

2024-04-01 13:26:47 +0000 UTCAs much as I love Yuder's friends in the Cavalry, I really appreciate his dynamic with Enon. It's good for him to have a friend who doesn't automatically defer to him.
