Kishiar's words contained a clear meaning without any room for misunderstanding, even without using direct terms. Yuder quietly met the gazes of dozens of eyes that were looking at him with a slightly different expression than before.
After the first meal in Peletta ended like that, the attendant Enk appeared with someone who would guide them to their resting place.
"Your Grace, Baron Aile. This is Margaret. She is in charge of managing the inner castle, so she will guide you well to your bedrooms. Then I will take my leave now. I wish you a good evening, and please call me anytime if you need anything."
Margaret had a very similar impression to Enk at a glance but was much younger.
'Is she Enk's daughter?'
Margaret, who politely bowed in greeting, said with a smile as her first words.
"I received a message that a precious guest would be staying in the inner castle, so I prepared two bedrooms in advance, but I just judged that one of them would be unnecessary. Would it be alright if I handle it as I judged?"
It was a very blunt remark, but perhaps because of the goodwill felt in her eyes, it didn't feel very rude.
"Yes."
As Yuder nodded, Margaret guided them to the depths of the inner castle with an unrestrained gait.
The Duke's bedroom, their destination, was located much deeper than the dining room. The peculiar thing was that the further one went into the inner castle, the less people were seen. Especially from the moment they entered the floor where the bedrooms were located, even the presence that could be felt from afar was completely cut off, and no presence of any other person could be felt except for Margaret.
It felt as if a line had been drawn, saying no one should enter from this point on.
'It's a bit different from the quiet feeling I had when I came here in my previous life... but still, it's too quiet.'
"You must be tired from coming all the way to Peletta, so I hope you rest comfortably."
After reaching the top floor, which was incomparably quiet, in front of the Duke's bedroom, Margaret opened the door and politely greeted them once again before leaving. As even she left, all the air settled quietly as if the lively atmosphere of the dining room until just now had been a dream.
A low voice was heard next to Yuder, who was staring at the empty corridor for a moment.
"The words I said at the end of the meal earlier. Were you surprised?"
Yuder turned his head. Kishiar was watching Yuder, leaning against the open door with his arms crossed, without entering the room yet. Yuder slightly raised his eyebrows towards his faint smile.
"It seems a bit too late to ask that now."
"That's true."
Nevertheless, the reason for asking was to prepare for the very slight possibility of "what if" that might not be conveyed through words. Yuder opened his mouth, guessing his intentions.
"I guessed that you would say something similar in any way here. But it was a bit more..."
"A bit more?"
Yuder reached out his hand towards the slightly hanging hair on the forehead of the man who had tilted his head and continued.
"It's difficult to explain, but anyway, it felt a bit strange."
"In a bad way?"
"No. Absolutely not."
The fingers that touched his forehead brushed back the golden hair. Looking at the face of the man who closed his eyes like a gentle sheep and accepted that touch, Yuder recalled the emotions he had felt all day.
"It would be more accurate to say that the strange feeling I had felt from the moment I set foot in Peletta was the strongest at that time. It was just a bit... sudden, I should say."
"Sudden."
"Yes. It must be because I didn't expect to visit this place again like this."
Even after returning the hair to its place, Yuder didn't take his hand off his forehead. Kishiar also didn't say anything about removing the hand and just quietly felt Yuder's touch.
This was Peletta Castle, and they were comfortably doing this at the boundary between the corridor and the room without even closing the bedroom door. The fact that it felt really sudden and strange. But on the other hand, that strangeness felt natural too.
At that moment, Kishiar slowly opened his mouth.
"At the top of this inner castle, there is only the Duke's bedroom now, but originally, the Duchess's bedroom was also here. When I came here, I broke down the two rooms halfway and made them into one space, so the distinction lost its meaning. At that time, I needed a temporary office where I could work right away while living in bed, and I thought I would never need a companion's bedroom in my lifetime."
"..."
"Even though there is only one bedroom left now, others will remember the fact that there were originally two bedrooms here."
The answer from Margaret that one of the rooms would be unnecessary would have that meaning. So if he felt even a little uncomfortable or reluctant, he could go down now, the red eyes that were slightly revealed under the eyelashes seemed to say to Yuder.
Yuder looked into those eyes and let out a long breath.
Kishiar La Orr always offered him the choice to back out until the very end. As if asking if he would continue to move forward together even if he did this.
No matter how much change had occurred within him, he probably still couldn't completely shake off that deeply ingrained habit.
In the end, Yuder's answer was always only one.
"Let them remember."
"..."
"Didn't you say I was a precious guest? As you said, I've come a long way, so I also want to rest in the place where I feel I can rest most comfortably now."
Yuder smiled at the man who was leaning against the door as if blocking it.
"I want to go in now, so could you please move aside?"
Kishiar's eyes flickered with an indescribable light. He, who was standing straight, burst into laughter with a flushed face, just like the moment he had once said was thrilling.
"It is an honor to welcome the first guest I bring into this place like this. Please come in."
Yuder stepped over the threshold, past the man who was politely greeting him with his hand on his chest like an attendant. Just that one step made him feel really strange.
The inside of the Duke's bedroom was neatly organized as if Kishiar had left this place only yesterday. Despite everything being different, Yuder was reminded of his bedroom in the capital in the structure of the furniture and the overall atmosphere.
'No. To be more precise...'
The bedroom of the palace where Kishiar stayed during his time as a prince. Yes, it was closer to that.
Although not as luxurious as the Imperial Palace, there was a 'wall' here that gave a very similar feeling to what he had seen there.
It looked like an ordinary wall, but it was the very wall that could move and isolate the person inside.
As Yuder stared blankly at that wall, Kishiar approached and tapped the wall with his finger to show him.
"It seems you noticed the true nature of this wall as soon as you arrived."
"Does this wall serve the same role as the one in the Imperial Palace?"
"That's right. I made it so that the bedroom could be sealed off in case of an emergency. No one can move it except Nathan."
Yuder noticed that the bedroom and the office were divided around that wall. As Kishiar said, when they broke down the two rooms that originally existed and combined them into one, they naturally inserted a partition wall in between. The intention was subtle but clear.
Even though he knew it was a wall that had become useless now, he felt uneasy.
"Is that why people other than Ms. Margaret don't enter here, for isolation?"
"That was the case. Since I had to avoid having many people come into contact with me when I was sick, I limited the people who could enter from the beginning as much as possible."
If he made it so that no one could enter from the beginning, even if an emergency occurred, isolation would be possible without much suspicion, avoiding the eyes of others. Kishiar must have created such a rule from the moment he arrived in Peletta for that sole purpose.
In fact, it was felt that he had an open personality that allowed anyone to enter the dining room in the inner castle and eat together, and he liked his retainers very much, but he perfectly separated that from his own secret, which was truly Kishiar-like.
"In the case of this bedroom, only Margaret can manage it if Nathan and I are away. That's the rule."
"...Now that I can enter too, there's one more person."
At those words, Kishiar smiled brightly.
