The Mist Vol 2 Chapter 21

Vol 2 Chapter 21

As Kapros forcibly held onto the Dust Wind trying to spread forward and attempted to change its shape, his headache grew increasingly severe. He could feel his forehead and chin becoming damp with cold sweat, but there was no time to wipe it away, so he had no choice but to leave it be.

How many minutes had passed as he exerted himself like this?

Suddenly, he felt his mana rapidly depleting. It was the same sudden mana drain phenomenon he had experienced when learning Dispel, which occurred when spell control or activation time was prolonged. At this rate, he would exhaust all his strength before even starting.

"It... can't... be like this!"

It was unthinkable that he couldn't control the magic he had cast himself. Filled with anger, Kapros brought both hands down with all his might, as if wringing out every ounce of strength from his body.

'Move!'

Crash!

For a moment, with an immense pressure that felt like the surrounding air was being compressed, the Dust Wind finally began to spread sideways little by little, albeit reluctantly. It was the moment when the tug-of-war between the magic and Kapros started to change.

Finally...!

Bursting into a joyful laugh, Kapros put all his effort into molding the Dust Wind that had just begun to obey him. Since pressing too hard might cause it to disappear completely, he needed control far more delicate than before.

By the time he had finally created a wall of wind blocking the front like a vast fence, constantly muttering "just a little more" as he adjusted, his entire body was drenched in sweat. But he didn't care about that at all. A truly amazing sight was unfolding before his eyes. The long wall of living, swirling wind standing firmly in front of him, blocking like Fire Wall or Ice Wall, was so marvelous that anyone who hadn't seen it in person would hardly believe it.

"I've done it...!"

He really hadn't been sure if it would work or not, but seeing it succeed like this, it seemed his idea was correct after all. All magic in MIST could be changed into a completely different form from its original appearance through the user's control.

The shape transformation of Dust Wind that Kapros had attempted was such a drastic change that it almost warranted renaming the spell, but it still retained its original nature, lining up like a wall while swirling and sweeping up the surrounding grass and trees. Kapros was greatly satisfied with this result.

Ignoring the splitting headache from the tremendous control required, Kapros immediately moved on to the next step without further ado.

"Screw Fireball."

Whoosh!

About ten Screw Fireballs appeared floating in front of him. Controlling a shape-transformed spell while simultaneously casting another spell was an act sufficient to potentially ruin both, but perhaps encouraged by the success of Dust Wind, it didn't feel that difficult.

What came next was even more important. Kapros moved his fingers to arrange the ten fireballs behind the wind wall, each at a certain distance apart. The flames flickered as if about to be extinguished in front of the Dust Wind, but he could somehow manage to hold onto them.

Glancing ahead, he saw the Kalap Titan had stopped in front of the Dust Wind wall, seemingly confused, and was pacing around. But such behavior wouldn't last long. If such a massive creature forced its way through, there was almost no chance the Dust Wind wall could stop it.

'I need to hurry.'

Kapros took a breath to calm himself again, then opened his mouth and shouted.

"Fly!"

Whoosh!

The fireballs began to shoot forward, riding the wind of Dust Wind as Kapros desired. His heart pounded as he watched the flames race across the field, riding atop the wind and trailing long, glowing tails like meteors. When a fire breaks out, the wind can change its direction and make it grow larger depending on how it blows. Kapros intended to use this to increase the power of both spells.

But a moment later, something unexpected happened.

The fireballs that had been flying well, as if riding waves of wind, suddenly began to spread as if the fire was catching! While Kapros was bewildered by this sudden turn of events, what had been waves of wind carrying fire soon became complete waves of fire. Before his eyes, red waves scattered sparks everywhere, swirling more and more violently.

Whoosh!

Even though it was just wind wearing a shell of fire, it seemed like a completely different spell had been born. It was such an overwhelming sight that even Kapros stared blankly, lost in amazement.

'How could this be...'

He had only intended to increase the power by carrying fire on waves of wind...

The Kalap Titan also seemed overwhelmed by this sight, standing stupidly in front of the waves of fire rushing towards it. Only then did Kapros come to his senses and begin to move the image again. A suppressed groan involuntarily escaped through his clenched teeth.

He hoped the monster would stay like that just a little longer.

He hoped this attack, wrung out with his last ounce of strength, would work properly.

'Grab it, swallow it, destroy it completely!'

The moment the Kalap Titan and the waves of fire collided head-on, an enormous shockwave engulfed the surroundings. It was a miracle that Kapros wasn't blown away, taking the brunt of the aftermath at such close range. He stood up, putting strength into his legs, and chanted a spell.

"Ma...gic Shield!"

With a dizzy sensation, the secondary shockwave that was about to hit him was blocked.

"Huff... Huff..."

He could feel that not much mana remained. After barely managing to use Blink to retreat a few hundred meters further back, the results of the magic he had accomplished came clearly into view. The Kalap Titan and surrounding monsters burning while buried in a massive pile of fire, and the enormously destroyed great plains, looked like the very center of hell.

Who could believe this was the power of magic created by mixing 1st and 5th circle spells? Kapros was left speechless at the sight of the burning, wailing earth.

"..."

By the way, this... he wondered if it might be visible even from where Yu-wan and Kran had fled.

While worrying about this newly arisen concern, Kapros momentarily took his attention off the burning monsters. And the enemy didn't miss that opening. In the brief moment he looked away, Kapros doubted his eyes as he saw a massive shadow leap out from the flames.

'It's still alive?'
