Update Schedule (Book VII) & News

Book VII started today, so I'm putting this post up to confirm that the update schedule will be staying the same as it was during Book VI: two large chapters, coming out Tuesdays and Fridays.
There are two fresh changes, though! It's been pointed out to me over the years that patrons on here don't actually get much out of supporting me, so I've finally shaken things up a bit. Extra chapters, the first goal reward, will be Patreon-exclusive from April onwards. They'll be put up here on the same date they would normally have been put up on the main site, so no change in that regard.
To sweeten the pot, on the first week of every month I'll be making a poll where all patrons can vote about which of a selection of extra chapters they would most like see written next. (I'm leaning towards giving three choices to pick from, at the moment, but we'll see.) The poll will close at the end of the week, which in March's case will be Sunday the 7th. I'll be making the poll in question tonight.
Once Book VII ends I'll be adding the accumulated extra chapters to the main site with the others, however, so it might be more accurate to say you're getting about a year's worth of advance content rather a permanent exclusive.

I think it's great that the extra chapters are patron bonuses, and then released to the public at the close of each book. Personally, I don't actually read the extra chapters until the end of the book anyway, but it's great to have some sort of incentive to motivate more people to help support the writing! The cost to non-patreon readers of having the non-plot chapters delayed a bit is pretty minimal.

My answer above to Dakota should cover most of this, but to sum up the extra chapters will be more strictly separate from the main story so the issue you're worried about shouldn't pop up. Mostly they'll be set before the books proper, or in a sideshow that doesn't necessarily influence the main plot but might be interesting to readers.

2021-03-03 01:21:20 +0000 UTCI understand what you're trying to say, Dakota, but the order shouldn't be an issue for the non-Patreon readers. These chapters are side-stories, and while there's a few extras in past books that were somewhat related to the main story running concurrently I'll be stricter in that regard going forward. They'll be more 'extra', in a sense, not necessary in the slightest to enjoy the books but a fun addition for the people who pitch in. As for people not checking the Patreon frequently that's something to consider, I'll check if there can be an email notification for patrons when I post an extra chapter.

I agree with Dakota, as a huge fan of the story I personally think it might be more appropriate to still release the plot-relevant "Extra Chapters" as they occur in the story so that the non-patron readers can have the proper insight. As a patron, I'm already satisfied with getting to vote on who we see more of in the character-introspection extra chapters, as well as access to all of those before everyone else. That feels like plenty of a reward to me. Regardless of what you end up doing, I love the story and, based on the teaser you gave for the next one, will be following your writings for a long time. 2021-03-02 23:29:27 +0000 UTCHi, I really love that patrons are getting more bonuses, but I feel like reading the extra chapters out of order would kind of ruin the experience for non-patrons, so maybe can you like, release unpolished versions to us a little early but still allow the non-patrons to read them in the more reasonable order? Also tbh I don't check Patreon that often so I feel like it'd be easy to miss this stuff even as a patron which makes it even more awkward

Then I realized I was reading this on a Patreon post email and had just forgotten I had signed up for your Patreon cus, as you said, no real benefits beyond supporting you (which was worth it, don't get me wrong).
