Here's how I achieved this dramatic hard light with deep shadows:
1. I'm using the constant light on my flashead with a Magnum Reflector on camera light. The light is 4-5 meters away from the model. Also the light is coming through a doorway which is preventing a huge light spill.

Getting this look. I'm using a flash through a 2x2 m scrim (almost 2/3 of the scrim are covered in order to get a thinner strip of light) on camera left and a huge black flag on the right, extremly close to the model, so close you can even see it in one of the images.
PS. Really sorry for the straightforward censorship...
Could not color grade these images in a way I really like for quite some time now. I'm happy with how they look now! How do you feel about so bright highlights and so deep, dark shadows?

I really like these images! How brightly they're lit but still don't look too flashy, the soft pastel feel to them... Sadly, after the photoshoot, the model decided she doesn't want us to publish any images to social media. Good news is you get to see them because she's okay with me publishing them here, to my Patreon! Enjoy!...

I'm coming to realize that although editing and retouching can quite improve your final results, and further insert your own vision into the end result, it is not necessary all the time... It seems like learning to work with light and your model will give you better results almost every time!

First a testshoot. We meet at my studio, talk about #thebodyportrait series, make a few testshots and if we're all happy with what we're hearing we discuss how to proceed next.
This is my process now. Yes, it's more time investing but proving to be a lot more productive for everyone envolved.
