Dragons vs jackals. Both pointy. Both triangley. Both varied in color. Dragons have infinite mythos and magic. But but but... jackals have fluff.

Definitely going to revisit the glass table one at some point in the future. It's a fun concept.

There is a point at which exaggeration becomes ludicrous. Too much. Too far.

Unfortunately, within the furry fandom, where that point is varies from individual to individual. It is a very thick line, which is what she said.

Jackal interaction sketches

2 characters is quite the different composition from 1. You get a lot of overlap and interactions that just aren't doable with one character which open up a pandora's box of possibilities. It's harder, and easier, less and more fun, but there's more to it. 

Why jackals?

More than triangles, more than the variety of tails and color and hair. More than the ancient egyptian theming. It's when you put all those things together the artistic possibilities are both wonderfully varied and ripe for narrative.

Jackals. In sketch form.

And a bun. I'd like to render the jackals, do comics, explore the whole story of what's in the head. Why not? Time, really.

There might be some repeats in the coming days. I've got a folder of sketches and forgot to mark which I've posted and which I haven't so apologies if there's any redundancies.

Perspective, narrative, interaction, paws, musculature. So much to study, but what to fully flesh out and render?

Q: Why so much perspective looking up?

A: The first answer that comes to your mind is correct. Happy the holiday.

Q: Why the gray background?

It is exclusively 100% because the toned background hides mistakes.

Or, you know, because staring at pure white and using pure black is hard on the eyes. Plus if I ever want to add highlights it's easy when the gray already is. 

Q: Where do all these sketches come from?

A: Studies, ideas of poses, wanting to solve a certain perspective or expression problem. You'll see similar poses over and over because it's something I find neat that I'm exploring, finding different compositions.  Often there's just one little bit of anatomy or a curve that seems really neat and wanting to focus on it...

Q: Why jackals?

A: they're not all jackals, but... most of them are.

I like the ears. That's about it. They're cute. The egyptian motif also allows for a lot of play, though I do wish they had fluffier tails.

As with all sketch groups, there's a few I like and a few I don't like. It's always a toss up which get finished and which go into the folder of forgotten projects, never to see their full render.
