Shot down

A bit experimental, but I wanted to get a shot of some Angel Corps CAS.

Really leaning into the idea of the Airborne troops getting to be a little bit fancy, what with their different boot styles and stockings. 'Dress a (wo)man well and (s)he'll fight well,' and all that.

This was from a quite ambitious photo-story that I now can't find. I'm rooting through my old hard-drives in search of it, but it never made it public because it was just so much work to add in the weapon and hit effects.

I did quite a few one-off concept renders showing my Airborne Angels having a hard time of it.

Angel Airborne

I do love the idea of airborne troops dropping right into the thick of it. The original jump troops used these wings and the zip-up suit, but when I went over to G2 and G3, I decided I wanted a way to make the jump troops look different. I ended up making the leotard with a custom-made transmap.

An attempt to recapture the look of the original (Vicky 4) Angel Corps story using a Genesis 2 costume. I just didn't like the heels, so it never stuck.

Now that I'm starting to find my feet with Patreon, I think I could do with a little market research.

I'm going to preface this by just being clear about how much time it takes to produce a complete piece of work, just so people understand what I can (and can't) achieve each month.

It normally takes between two a...

Another grand idea that never got finished off: Angels in floaty dresses fighting demon succubus girls in the air. Don't think I've entirely written off the idea- I just had to prioritise my workflow and this idea lost.

Loved the effects on this, but never liked the lighting, so it never became a full story.

Bodak post 4: Isla (iii) from patreon

There wasn't going to be a medic.

There didn't seem to be anyone else around.

Somewhere distant, the sounds muffled by the concrete walls and passages of the facility, Isla could still hear shouts and gunfire, but the battle had moved on and left her behind like so much litter. Even the black-clothed bitches who'd...

Bodak post 4: Isla (ii) from patreon

She'd gotten one of the bitches at least. The fucker lay stretched out where she'd fallen, not moving, her weapon fallen some distance from her out-stretched hand. The other two were still there, still shooting.

Perhaps they hadn't realised yet that they'd hit her.

Isla's hand came away bloody from the torn hole ...

Bodak post 4: Isla (i) from patreon

Within the confines of the concrete cloister that surrounded the courtyard, the hard, harsh report of gunfire was oppressively loud. There were at least three shooters; women in black, armed with pistols, doggedly defending the far end of the covered gallery and turning the narrow passage into a killzone.

To Isla, the c...

Image 4 for November (not sure how I've ended up posting so many, but never mind).

One thing about the Star Wars universe that I simultaneously love and hate: Despite all the technology, Infantry tactics are still in the Napoleonic era, and running into a defended choke-point while occasionally firing from the hip is a ...

Test: In the Water

Bodak post Test: In the Water from patreon

Here's another test render, this time for the defenders just outside the moon pool (You can see the surface of the water inside the dome on the left).

This render took 1 hour before I stopped it, and it looks OK with 2 figures in. Running an entire photo-story out of renders which need to be left overnight to cook is no...

Test: Defending the barracks

Bodak post Test: Defending the barracks from patreon

Experience with failures like the Onna Bushi and Paladins stories I've been sharing in the dungeon, has taught me to run a few test renders before I embark on any big story. This scene probably won't be in the final story, though it might form the basis of one: It's my concept for what it will look like as the off-duty Marine...

On Duty

Bodak post On Duty from patreon

Meanwhile, the sixteen on-duty troops will break down like this:

4 in the water, patrolling round the base.

8 suited-up in the Moon Pool, ready to act as a quick-reaction force.

4 guarding the lab and operating the surveillance equipment (you'll see that later).

From left to right: Phoebe and Sa...

Off-Duty

Bodak post Off-Duty from patreon

So here's four of the sixteen off-duty Marines who'll be scrambling to defend the base once the attackers break in. There's a mix of characters in underwear, tracksuits, vests, and the sorts of things squaddies end up wearing when they aren't in uniform but they can't get off base.

The Barracks

Bodak post The Barracks from patreon

The middle dome has space for 8 bunk beds, which will be laid out something like this.

Now, in my experience, the military tends to operate on a rule of 3s: For every soldier on-duty, there's another one held at readiness , and a third resting. I thought about this for far too long, and in the end I decided to b...
