There will be a time when you're using different versions of your character's face that contain a mirror modifier, but you've already sculpted your shape key. Blender by default will say you cannot apply modifiers with shape keys, but with this addon, YOU CAN!
I use it in a daily basis. It's free. I totally recommend it.
