I thought it was obvious they'd want to try giving Annie Tabitha's upgraded suit and see if that allowed Annie to have the upgraded suit indirectly.  It doesn't work here though.  When they are wearing the wrong ring it's still the first suit for both, and when Tabitha gets her ring back it's the second suit for her...

So what's happening here is that Annie is dodging something that is attacking her (maybe Tabitha?), and she runs out of power.  They hook it up to a rig to make the suit think Annie is still inside to continue tests.
