Louisiana Tornado Sneak Peek - March 26, 2023

Hello Patrons, 

Here's my first tornado of the year for your eyes only.

March 26 Chase - TX or LA or MS or AL?

Today's set up is not one I'm too familiar with. Besides the 10% Sig Tor hatched by the SPC, storm cell motions closer to 40 mph is much more doable than Friday's 50mph+ nightmare. March 24 - 15% Sig Tor - Not Chasing

After a detailed forecast I've decided to sit this one out.  The weak signal of discrete supercells in the models + distance + 50 mph potential cell motions + jungle = slim odds of pretty photos.  If I was chasing, I'd start off somewhere between, NE Louisiana and Jackson MS.

HEADS / A = Tail End Charlie potential. Tornado more unlikely but perhaps some good structure and lightning in great chase terrain. 

TAILS / B = Best hodographs / STP (Significant Tornado Parameters) if a discrete storm can hang around.

Last Night Recap & Next Thursday

Things panned out as expected yesterday with a mostly QLCS (Linear storm mode) tornado event.  QLCS tornadoes are often weak and non-photogenic compared to supercell tornadoes.

Long range models saw this event coming days ago and have been fairly consistent run to run resolving a target in the ENH (Enhanced) zone above.  

Below, at 6PM, the GFS has an area of 1K+ surface CAPE in a highly sheered environment.

Storm Event Dec 13-15 (Gulf States)

Tornado warned supercells have been marching across TX/Ok/KS overnight. I haven’t seen any nasty reports in my feeds.

Today has potential for nasty jungle reports. I’ll be boarding a flight to Denver soon and will miss out, though I’m not ruling out an interesting aerial view.

Hey Golden Grahams,

2016 was the year. Almost every chase provided extremely photogenic storms, tornadoes, lightning, structure and clouds.  I often wonder if I will every see a better storm season (2019 wasn't too shabby). Here's an April lightning storm in Bennington Kansas.
