Today's progress. I have to say that I am very pleased with progress today! I'm excited to get to work on the figure, but I know that it's important for my process to establish the elaborate background first!

Petals

This is an older video from spring time a couple of years ago.  I recently received an email from YouTube that it was taken down, even though it was never a public video. I thought I'd re-link it from Vimeo.  I'm not sure where it's posted here, but the link will no longer work from the previous post.

Doing a little clean up in the studio today! I have so many paintings tucked away, here and there. I had worked for some time on this painting. I was not happy with the level of detail in the hair. So I finished it today! I'm completely happy with how the lights and darks in the hair add depth and texture now!

I continued working today on this painting. It did occur to me at some point that I was making unnecessary changes. Some paintings don't have a clear stopping point, the best thing to do is just stop. Gotta know when to quit!

Putting on a vine skirt and top

A behind the scenes look at how to put on art made from nature!

Clothing such as this is not really intended to be comfortable. It certainly isn't the easiest to put on, either!

Over the course of two weeks, I've harvested sticks, leaves, vines and moss. The studio smells of mud and leaves. I've worked on the meticulous task of binding, tying, twisting, and ultimately gluing moss into place. Little bits of my building materials are scattered about!

It's finally come together! Dressed in n...

I had previously shared some photos of this, but I think the idea was still a bit abstract. Now that more progress has been made, I think the intention is a little more clear! The skirt has been almost entirely covered in moss since I took this photo, and my leaves have been beautifully preserved. They are ready to be added...

The dunes painting is complete! I think I'll call it, "Lonely in the Valley'. Additionally, I started a new painting. The third photo is the reference. It was a lovely sunset that day!

Over the weekend, I worked on my project of unconventional materials. The corset and skirt skeleton is complete! Additional materials such as leaves, moss, and branches will have to be applied quickly. Almost as soon as it is completed, it will have to be photographed. This is an art project that will quickly expire, so it w...

True Grit

Rachael Padilla post True Grit from patreon

Wearing a collection of my signature pieces, I took a series of self portraits. It's been awhile since I've photographed myself in my grandfather's hat. Most notably, it's a prominent accessory in all my social media avatars.  I think these came out fairly well! Even that last one. I was going for a "grit and guts" kind ...

Gratitude

Today is Thanksgiving here in the states. A day when we celebrate the graciousness and knowledge that the Natives extended to the pilgrims.

The traditional dishes include turkey, cranberries, and pumpkin pie.

I've made that meal many times.

I didn't feel like it today. Instead, I made green...

I took some reference photos for a project that another artist is working on. I love my monokini and I'm thrilled that others do as well.  Looks like I'm going to be a badass knife throwing superheroine! I can't wait to share the results.

The corset made of vines is tied into place as it takes on the desired shape. I've been collecting the prettiest leaves I can find. They are soaking in a glycerin solution for preservation. They will soak for several days. When they're done, they should still be pliable, and I'll use them to embellish my autumn themed garmen...
