Whether you're made of flesh or steel, no one wants to be covered in the kind of bugs that lurk in hollow logs. Also, I'm happy with my little waterfall in panel 2. I guess I didn't want to just draw a log.

MECHO_009: comparison

Mecho can also observe his surroundings and adapt to them. He sees a big tree and wants to be big, too. From there, it's up to him to decide whether or not that's useful.

MECHO_008: confrontation

Another one of Mecho's functions is that he can use his eyes to light his path. That doesn't mean he's always going to like what he sees. What? Why doesn't he use infrared scanning? Because it isn't funny, ya dingus!

MECHO_007: decision

Mecho must either futilely attempt the climb to his safe box over and over again, or venture into the unknown. He chooses the latter, as that's a much more interesting comic.

MECHO_006: grade

Mecho's first instinct is to return to his box. But his little rollers aren't exactly all-terrain.

We finally get our first glimpse of the truck's cargo and our main character. I'm trying to emulate Bill Watterson's inking, albeit with pens and markers instead of ink and brush. I still think I pulled it off really well in panel 2.

One Step Back

Here’s the intermediary sketch of Mechanic Angela. I was still figuring out what I wanted to do with the hair. I had her using a rubber tire as a hair tie, but widely decided against it.

I finished the long-haired, buxom mechanic Angela, but waited until I got home so I could post a proper scan and not just a phone pic. Because you all deserve better than phone pics. A color version will be coming to my DA gallery sometime this week.

Split Ends Bel

Sketch for Bel’s extra-long-haired rocket design. She’s on bass, but insists on wearing an elaborate updo with bass guitar necks sticking out of it.

The joke might work better if this were an actual lock wrench, and not just an oversized crescent.

I don’t know what it is. I feel that out of my two main characters, I relate to Angela more. But put a crayon in my hand, and I’m going to draw Winifred every time. Maybe she works better with a limited palette.
