Painting the city lights for this one was pretty fun. I thought it was going to be a hassle, but I developed a special brush on the spot to make it a lot easier. Combining it with a special glow gradient ramp and brush mode and it was a piece of cake. :3

The primary reason I chose this square comic format was to synergize with some of the square visual elements that are going to be in this story, like this fighting ring!
Also, this angle was such a pain in the tail to do. It wasn't hard to do in thumbnail form, but actually adding detail? OOF.

This page details the basic quirk to this fictional sport. You can't get knocked out, and you can't get pushed/thrown out of the ring either! It's a mix of MMA and wrestling, essentially. Considering animal characters have different species-related quirks and physiques, I'd imagine such a sport would be really fun to watch in...

And here's the full version! Some areas look painterly, but that's only because the painting isn't meant to be viewed that close up. I always intend for my painting to be viewed so they fit on the computer screen, so detailing small, niche areas nobody would see would be a waste of time! That time is allocated in better ways....

As I do with every painting I do, I block out the colors and lighting first like this, before I start painting. This is how it looked at first! Color blocking like helps establish the mood, light sources, and focal point, while giving me a color palette to work with once I actually start making brush strokes.

Originally the commission had the character facing this way! But the commission asked for the cigarette to swap hands. The easiest way to fix that was to simply flip the picture, which is what I did, haha. The reason this commissions is in all black was because I got on a roll and forgot to change colors for the BG. :P
