Crew Training Facility

subbrief post Crew Training Facility from patreon

Shore based training is a big part of preparing a crew for service.  While a submarine is under-construction for years, the crew is formally assembled.  This same crew will stay together for years.  Their training begins in the class room and shore based simulators.

R-39 Missile Program Test Schedule

The R-30 Bulava SLBM (NATO: SS-NX-32)

subbrief post The R-30 Bulava SLBM (NATO: SS-NX-32) from patreon

This missile has new features previous SLBM's did not have. One of which is the ability to change it's target mid-flight.  The 2nd and 3rd stages have maneuvering nozzles to change its ballistic trajectory.  This gives the missile anti-missile defense avoidance. The first stage has a rapid fuel burn for maximum acce...

Project 955 Borei Research Begins

subbrief post Project 955 Borei Research Begins from patreon

I am  going deep into my Russian sources about their newest, quietest and most secret ballistic missile submarine.  This is a real challenge as I have to separate the facts from the propaganda.  I have some first hand knowledge of their troubled missile testing program so I will add that to the sub brief.

Yasen in Drydock

subbrief post Yasen in Drydock from patreon

A very clear photo of the Yasen out of the water.  The control surface hydraulics are depressurized causing the stern plans to fall down to the mechanical stops.  Looks like about 40 degrees.

There is a fresh water hose from a hull penetration to prevent discharge form freezing against the hull.

The purp...

Yasen's Heavy Weight 53cm Torpedo "UGST"

subbrief post Yasen's Heavy Weight 53cm Torpedo "UGST" from patreon

Here is a clear view of the propulsion unit on the rear of the Yasen's torpedo.  You can see the twin, counter rotating blades.  The rear set has twice as many blades as the front set.  This pushes the torpedo in a straight line (not spinning out of control) and extremely fast.  65+ knots.

This is the Special Mission Sub that would dock with KS-86 Project 675N.  Something I lost in the translation of  my Echo II Sub Brief is this is not for Special Forces as much as this is for deep diving special missions.

The Paltus would be carried off the coast to Norway and they would locate sub-ocea...
