Actually, Ancients do like them (four sketches around the central one looks pretty close to what I was thinking of), and those things still can be found on their 'mothergarden' ships.

For now I have not much to say about them... My mind haunts an idea that they are probably all dead, because Ancients physically couldn't save all animals from their home planet while fleet of Rhags attacked it (and, what's most important, Ancients even couldn't save all of their own colonies...

About: I think that they should have some collective power on the planet, so main idea for now is that they are like our ants, but build their nests above the ground on the highest points of terrain or at the middle of most thick frame plants, so that anyone couldn't reach them that simple.
