went a little overboard setting up a lighting/color reference in blender. turned out to be super worth-it; being able to color-pick to establish the hues & values of the piece has been such a needed change of pace for my workflow.

experimenting with blender 2.9's vastly improved cloth physics, especially its "pressure" function. the results were... odd. when you use physics to inflate an object, you're at the mercy of physics for how that object will be shaped.
